Herriot Country
Just a few miles from the Thirsk visitor centre and former veterinary surgery of Alf Wight, (alias author James Herriot), The Nag's Head is an ideal touring base for the magnificent countryside of the Yorkshire Dales, backdrop for television's version of All Creatures Great and Small.
The Yorkshire Dales, Abbeys and Museums
The area abounds with natural features including Brimham Rocks, Mother Shipton's Cave and Aysgarth Falls. Ancient sites such as Jervaulx, Rievaulx and Fountains Abbeys are well worth a visit as are the impressive museums of York, Beamish and Bowes.
Grand Houses, Gardens, Leisure Parks
There are several superb gardens and grand houses in the area. Set in beautiful grounds a few minutes' drive away, Lightwater Valley leisure park features spectacular white knuckle rides, excitement and entertainment for all ages. Several nearby towns boast excellent swimming and sports centre facilities.

Roger holds the Salmon & Trout Association National Instructor's Certificate (STANIC) and is a member of the Game Angling Instructors' Association (GAIA). One of only a dozen or so people in Britain to be invited to membership of the prestigious Hardy Greys Academy of fly-fishing instructors and guides, Roger also has Hardy and Greys equipment available for demonstration. Roger also specialises in Fly Fishing as a technique for stress management, and was featured on Luke Casey's Dales Diary on TV. (Due to the high level of demand, it is essential to contact Roger well in advance to book your tuition.)
